Wherever you go, our network follows!!!      Is this the advertisement for the Hutch mobile? 😊😊😊This was the immediate response of one of my students - Govind- when I informed them of the test paper to be held on 16.11.2020 (Monday) .😈😈😈 Wherever I go the exam follows! They were thinking that in the online platform there won't be any exams. But alas! That's not the case. Even though the first response was not that warm all my students attended the exam. I am happy about that.  The question that perplexed me! Achievement Test! Achievement Test- Question Paper! Diagnostic Test! Diagnostic Test-Question Paper!

The Art of 'Sethubandhanam'???

Image
The Art of Sethubandhanam ???      One of the greatest challenges in online education is learning how to bridge the gap of digital divide. The ever-existent gap is there. Acknowledging it is the first step towards trying to find out remedies for that. The concept of inclusive education will only be a reality when all the students are provided equal opportunity for education. While we had to undertake phase I of the school internship we had to face countless problems to make our class inclusive. Out of the 10 students allotted to us, only 6 students had smartphones and an internet connection. 2 students only had the basic phone set with the. So it’s not possible for them to be a part of the class. We were not able to track the other two students. This was the dilemma that we faced when we started the online class two weeks back. “Smooth seas will not make skillful sailors” It is the challenges that we overcome that makes us strong and builds our character. The...

When Noun and Verb went out to play cricket! (DAY 10)

Image
When Noun and Verb went out to play cricket! (DAY 10)      The noun and verb went out to play cricket in the last class….on Day 10 of the School Internship on 13.11.2020 (Friday) . It was a very effective strategy to teach grammar- Noun Phrase and Verb Phrase . All the students responded well to the idea. After all, when Dhoni is the Noun and Virat is the Verb then naturally learning grammar will be a T20 match.😀😀😀 It was fun both for the students and the teacher. It felt very relaxing. The last class was thus made remarkable and unforgettable. I would like to explore more such ways to transact grammar. The day gave me a fixed feeling. On the one hand, I was feeling relieved that the School Internship phase was over but on the other hand somehow I was feeling sad too. I was really enjoying the "40 minutes" of being the teacher, the hours and hours of brainstorming and discussions, preparation of teaching aids, and PowerPoint Presentations. The experience and ...

What’s up??? The sky? (DAY 9)

What’s up??? The sky? (DAY 9) A dangling principle is something “ up with which I will not put ” – Winston Churchill Hand-drawn pictures to revise verbs and prepositions!      The Day 9 of School Internship on 12.11.2020 (Thursday) could be relatable to the above statement by Winston Churchill. This was the day that I really felt satisfied and content with my class. All the students equally participated in the activities and I could get a feeling that the content was transacted well to the students. It’s very true when it is said: “Tell me and I forget Teach me and I remember.   Involve me and I learn”           - Benjamin Franklin The class on Phrasal Verbs was centered around live demonstration and teaching using hand-drawn pictures. The strategy felt very effective and interesting to the students. It could have been used more in the classes. That’s what I could infer from my class. Highlights Demonstration The charts us...

The Experimental Wednesday! (Day 8)

Image
The Experimental Wednesday (Day 8)      The Day 8 of the School Internship on 11.11.2020 (Wednesday) was truly experimental at its best. Teaching grammar is a very intricate process. You can’t live without it and it’s not that easy to live with it too. 😄😄😄It’s all about maintaining the balance. It was decided to teach Adverbs on that day, using the Concept Attainment Model . Teaching grammar by employing models of teaching is a very tiring and exhausting process. You need to stay inside the framework and within there you have to transact the concepts. I knew it will be a daunting task. But it was a risk we were willing to take and the end result was satisfactory. Preparing to teach using a model of teaching is in fact very exhausting – physically and mentally. Everything needs extra care, effort, and precision. Then only the result will be fruitful. Otherwise, the experiment will fail. I tried my level best to do justice to the work at hand.   I tried to...

"നാളേയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി": Playing Games and Planting Trees! (DAY 7)

നാളേയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി : Playing Games and Planting Trees! (DAY 7)     The Day 7 of the School Internship on 10.11.2020 (Tuesday) marked the end of the chapter- Climate change is not hysteria- it’s a fact . The 7 days were spend learning to appreciate and love nature. The seventh day saw the culmination of that. I want to make the last day where I transact the content be memorable to the students. That’s the reason why I decided to plant a tree and make the students do the same. The poem by Sugatha Kumari set the whole tone for the day. Rather than a class, we were doing something to protect nature. Because actions always speak louder than words. Care for the Morrow “Do more than just talk; act. Do more than just promise; deliver” – Dr. Steve Meraboli Highlights Upon reflection, I could list out the following points: Planting a tree Planting a tree for my own survival and for the others as well! I planted a tree in my home. Took the video of it and sh...

The 'Time Machine'! (DAY 6)

Image
The Time Machine ! (DAY 6)      The most treasured heirlooms are the memories of childhood. The Day 6 of the School Internship on 09.11.2020 (Monday) offered me a chance to go back to one of the fond memories I associate with my childhood- Doing crossword puzzles in Balarama! The online platform offers you a chance at experimentation. To try and to explore new things. The solace the home environment offers might prompt us to do things better. To push us to our limits. To step out from our comfort zones. You tend to think if not now then when? The Covid has taught us the temporary nature of life. Let’s try to make the best of the situation. Crossword Puzzle in class Highlights! Upon reflection, I could list out the following highlights: Prayer Prayer to protect nature!🙏🙏🙏 Prayer often offers you a sense of calmness and positivity to many. Nature is the best gift that is enjoyed by human beings. When we acknowledge the value of nature through prayer it of...

Can you guess "Who I am"? (DAY 5)

Image
Can you guess " Who I am "? (DAY 5)      The Day 5 of the School Internship on 06.11.2020 (Friday)  was very liberating. It’s a liberating experience when you are able to reduce the gap between the lesson plan and real classroom teaching. Most often especially in an online platform, it’s very difficult to follow the lesson plan. The teacher has to improvise at every turn. But this day I was able to maintain a balance between the two. It was a relaxing feeling. The feeling that I am doing something right. It’s very rewarding. The improvised teaching aids used for the class Highlights Upon reflection, I could list out the following highlights: Who am I? Who am I? The class started with a riddle game- Who am I ? The riddle questions were related to nature. The students guessed the answers correctly without much prompting. It was very entertaining. Origami Mountain The Paper Mountain is reday within minutes!💪 The teacher and the students made an origami m...
