The Experimental Wednesday (Day 8)

    The Day 8 of the School Internship on 11.11.2020 (Wednesday) was truly experimental at its best. Teaching grammar is a very intricate process. You can’t live without it and it’s not that easy to live with it too. 😄😄😄It’s all about maintaining the balance. It was decided to teach Adverbs on that day, using the Concept Attainment Model. Teaching grammar by employing models of teaching is a very tiring and exhausting process. You need to stay inside the framework and within there you have to transact the concepts. I knew it will be a daunting task. But it was a risk we were willing to take and the end result was satisfactory. Preparing to teach using a model of teaching is in fact very exhausting – physically and mentally. Everything needs extra care, effort, and precision. Then only the result will be fruitful. Otherwise, the experiment will fail. I tried my level best to do justice to the work at hand.  I tried to incorporate some new strategies to transact the content of Adverbs. The pre-requisite should be given too. We can’t be sure of the pre-requisite of the students in the online classroom. Without the pre-requisite, the Concept Attainment Model will not succeed.

Highlights

Upon reflection I could list out the following highlights:

YES and NO exemplars!

Models of Teaching is best suited to teach grammar and vocabulary. But doing that in an online platform within a limited time is in fact huge risk and a challenge. But I could manage it well as I have tried to prepare and rehearse everything that is to be said and transacted in the class. Concept Attainment Model was employed successfully to teach Adverb with Adjective as the pre-requisites

Adjectives are Noun's best friend. Who is yours?

Since we can’t be sure of the pre-requisite of the learners within the first 10 minutes, I did a quick recap of the concept of Adjectives effectively. The idea was very helpful for the next part of the lesson. Without the revision of the pre-requisite, the class will not have been successful.

Film and Cricket could do wonders in teaching grammar!

I used references from film, cricket, and animated stories to transact the concept of Adverbs. It seemed to be working well as the students seemed to respond well to them.

Hand-drawn pictures to teach Adjectives!

I used hand-drawn relatable pictures and situational teaching to make the concept more comprehensible to the students.

Lesson Plan

 I am very confident that I have prepared well for the lesson. I took hours and hours to plan the lesson and to prepare improvised teaching aids for the class.

To take ac class of 30 minutes you need to plan for more than 24 hours. I understood that reality that day. being a teacher is not an easy task at all. It needs to be taken seriously as the responsibility on the shoulders of teaching is huge but achievable nonetheless. 🙏🙏🙏💪

  Hope for the best, prepare for the worst and ready to be surprised! (DAY 3)      The Day 3 of School Internship on 04.11.2020 (Wednesday) gave me a mixed feeling. Since the topic to be taught on that day contained several concepts and phenomena related to climate change it felt very exhausting. I think I could have taught the concepts in a better way for the students to understand. Even though I have prepared extensively for the concepts to be taught, the implementation was not that smooth. I couldn’t get a feeling of satisfaction after the class. But it was truly a learning experience for me. From the next class onwards I could improve my class and that’s all matters.
