'Luttappi', 'Mammooty' and the 'Kings' of the classroom! (DAY 2)

Luttappi, Mammooty and the Kings of the classroom!

The Day 2 of the School Internship Phase I was on 03.11.2020 (Tuesday). We were really used to the ‘pretend model’ of peer teaching where you teach in the most ideal classroom versus the real classroom offers a stark difference which in fact felt relaxing. The students act very real and they will say it to your face when they don’t understand the topic. They are not bothered by the lesson plan already planned and prepared to manage the time limit. They are the kings in the classroom. A teacher has to center the teaching around the students –their interests and aptitudes. If a teacher is able to do that then only the class will become interactive otherwise it’s just a lecture.

Highlights

Upon reflection, I could list out the following highlights from my class:

  •      Game

It was really a twister when the students asked me to try it out first!πŸ‘Ώ

The role of games in an ESL classroom is very significant. It’s a great idea to include the students. They will learn something without the pressure of learning.

  •       Innovative Word Study😈😈😈
When Mammooty and Luttappi comes to teach the words - fiction and pretend

The phase of word study was made innovative using pictures and references from films and comics. The students seem to understand the concept without much difficulty.

  •      Recap of Homework

Homework page of Karthik J Kurup

I reviewed the homework given in the previous class and that was a really motivating factor. The students seemed very happy when I congratulated them for doing the homework.

  •       Innovative Classroom Activity

The activity stage in an online classroom is in fact a challenge. It’s very difficult to ensure the full participation of all the students in an online platform. Activities should be adapted in a way to suit the need and interests of the students.

  •       Hand drawn pictures

I really felt the students seem to respond more to the hand-drawn pictures than the pictures downloaded from the internet. They seem to spark their interest and curiosity.

Day 2 of the school internship was eventful and a learning experience for me. Eagerly waiting for more...πŸ’—
