നാളേയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി: Playing Games and Planting Trees! (DAY 7)

The Day 7 of the School Internship on 10.11.2020 (Tuesday) marked the end of the chapter- Climate change is not hysteria- it’s a fact. The 7 days were spend learning to appreciate and love nature. The seventh day saw the culmination of that. I want to make the last day where I transact the content be memorable to the students. That’s the reason why I decided to plant a tree and make the students do the same. The poem by Sugatha Kumari set the whole tone for the day. Rather than a class, we were doing something to protect nature. Because actions always speak louder than words.

Care for the Morrow

“Do more than just talk; act. Do more than just promise; deliver” – Dr. Steve Meraboli

Highlights

Upon reflection, I could list out the following points:

  • Planting a tree

Planting a tree for my own survival and for the others as well!

I planted a tree in my home. Took the video of it and shared it to the students. Along with planting the tree the poem by Sugatha Kumari- "
നാളേയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി" was recited to transact the message across. To protect the environment and to nurture it for our own survival.

  • Live Recitation

Rather than playing a pre-recorded video or audio I opted to do the recitation live. The impact was more. The students seemed to like hearing live songs and poems in class rather than videos.

  • Puzzle

Who am I?- Puzzle questions

To introduce some famous environmental activists the game of Who am I? was played. Clues were given and the students have to guess the person. Without further prompting they were able to identify the people shown. They are more knowledgeable than us in some aspects. That’s the realization I gathered that day.

  • Online Quiz
Let's play in Kahoot

To do the summative evaluation I decided to opt for the online platform Kahoot. A small pop quiz containing 15 Multiple Choice Questions were given to the students. The quiz was held in class live. I felt really happy when the students answered almost all the questions correctly.

  • Innovative Activity

Hand-drawn pictures could set the mood in class

As activity students were asked out to list out the things they can do to protect nature.
A hand-drawn picture was used as a prompt. All the students actively participated in the activity.

Day 7 ended satisfactorily. It offered me hope for the plight of nature. Nature could be
salvaged.

  1. Planting a sapling is a good idea but nurturing it needs perseverance.may you have the perseverance to nurture the sapling of such good thoughts and ideas to fruit bearing trees with branches that can offer comfort and peace to all those who need that.
